Safari etiquette, and the photograph
A private vehicle gives you time. What you do with the silence decides what you see.
Let the guide lead
Trackers and guides read ground you cannot. Tell them at the start what matters most to you, whether that is big cats, birds, light or simply quiet, then follow their timing without pressing for a sighting.
Stillness over zoom
Animals respond to movement and noise, not to lenses. Settle early, keep your voice low, stay seated, and wait longer than feels comfortable. The best minutes almost always come after the vehicle has stopped moving.
Photograph the whole scene
Two bodies, a long lens and one wide lens will serve you better than a single extreme telephoto. Dust is the real enemy, so change lenses inside a bag and bring more cards and batteries than you think you need.
