Packing for a private journey
Small aircraft, private cars and boats change the rules. Pack for the transfers, not the destination.
Soft bags win
Light aircraft, helicopters and boat tenders all favour soft, collapsible luggage with a strict weight limit. Confirm the limit in writing before you shop, because it is often lower than you expect and rarely negotiable on the day.
Dress in one palette
Choose three or four colours that sit together and every piece will combine. Linen, fine merino and a single well cut jacket will carry you from a boat at dawn to a private dinner without a second case.
The small list that matters
Broken in walking shoes, a genuinely windproof layer, a spare pair of glasses, medication in original packaging with a copy of the prescription, and a modest amount of local cash for people who prefer it. Everything else can be found or sent on.
